![]() Materials:
For a boy's wallet:. Take the 7" X 7 1/2" piece of felt and fold the 7 1/2" side up to meet the other side. This will give you a folded piece 3 3/4" wide by 7" long. . Take your scissors and trim the top edge in a long shallow curve (see diagram). Thread your needle and do a buttonhole stitch across the two narrow ends joining the two pieces from the fold to the open side. Continue the buttonhole stitch across the single outside long straight edge. Fold the wallet in half and place the hook and loop tape or snap at the open end to hold it closed.
Instructions for the Purse: Fold the 4" X 9" piece of felt in thirds so it is 4" across X 3" deep. On the top fold open it back out and cut a curve on the end (see diagram).
Begin at the lower folded edge on the right side and buttonhole stitch joining the two pieces together. When you reach the open flap continue the buttonhole stitch around the curved end back to where you joined the folded piece and continue to the bottom fold of the purse. Fold the top flap down and place your snap or hook and loop tape to close. Option 1: Add a Ribbon handle by sewing a ribbon or cord to each side and button hole stitch through the ribbon. This ribbon can be made the length of a necklace so the purse can be worn around the neck. Option 2: Add a pin back to the back of the purse top and wear as a pin. The outside of the purse or wallet can be decorated with embellishments of your choice.
This craft is good for a group setting where you allow the children to use their own imagination. Provide them with the assorted materials and let them design their own. Materials:
![]() Instructions: For a flower cut flower or petal shapes from the felt of Fun Foam. Using the markers they can draw details. Attach magnetic tape to the back. Allow the children to decorate their flowers as they like. They can draw stamens or veins with the toothpick and glue and glitter them or let their imaginations design fantasy flowers. During this same project the children may wish to make bugs, butterflies, snails, frogs, etc. using the materials on hand just let them design their own critters.
Materials:
Allow the children to pick from four to six squares of paper per flower. Stick the tissue squares carefully so all sides are even and then accordion pleat in 1/2" pleats all the way across catching all tissue sheets in the folds. Wrap the chenille stem around the center of your folded tissue. Hold both ends of the stem in one hand and turn the paper until you have twisted the stem against the paper very tightly. Carefully separate the sheets of tissue fluffing as you go to for the head of the flower. These flowers can be used as decorations. If you wish to make a bouquet find a twig and twist several of the stems onto the twig to form a branch of flowers.
#1. When doing a craft begin with the first step and keep working until you are finished # 2. When doing group projects an old shower curtain or plastic tablecloth makes a great work surface protector. # 3. When working with chenille stems be sure to fold the wire ends back so they don't stick you.

Prepare a berry basket with Styrofoam cut to fit and a ribbon woven around the outside tied in a bow. Provide the children with scraps of construction paper, felt, Fun Foam, etc., craft sticks, a permanent marker, craft glue and buttons or Pom Poms etc., for the center of the flower. Cut out the flower shapes from your chosen material. Glue them to the top of one craft stick and add an embellishment if you wish. Allow the glue to dry and before the flowers are planted in the basket have the children write one thing that is fun to do that does not cost a lot of money on the back of the craft stick. Some ideas could be, a picnic lunch in the back yard, read a special story, have a treasure hunt, take a walk, go on a trip to the park etc. The flowers are then planted in the berry basket and when things get boring the children are allowed to pick one flower a day and do the activity listed.
Friendship Pins
Each participant has one large safety pin and a small safety pin for themselves and one for each member in the group. Materials:
The children will design their own small pins and make one for each other child in the group. They then trade the small pins so everyone has one from each child. These they will put on the large pin to make their own Friendship Pin. Provide the pins and beads in several different colors, shapes, etc. Each child can use any of the beads to make their own pin but they should be encouraged to thread them in a distinct order so no two small pins are exactly alike. The small pin is that child's individual signature pin. When threaded on the large pin each child will have one small pin from each of the others in the group. This project works best when the children are arranged in groups of five or six at the most.
Kitchen Crafts
Ingredients
1/2 cup warm water 2 - 8 of. bottles Elmers glue Food coloring
In a smaller bowl place 1 1/3 cups. warm water add 3 teaspoons Borax. Mix to dissolve.
Bubbles Recipe Ingredients
Mix together gently to thoroughly blend. Pour into a flat shallow container and use a variety of dippers to blow different types of bubbles. You can make the dippers of light wire from tiny little circles up to the size of your container to blow bubbles of different sizes. This is a great back yard activity. Especially on a calm day.
This project is good for an organized group or family outing. It is also a way to recycle stained "T" shirts. Materials
Decide on your design. If this is a church camp or a family outing the name of the group might be used. Otherwise, children can draw their own picture or abstract. Place the sandpaper between the front and back of the T-Shirt with the grit side facing the front of the T-Shirt. The shirt will catch in the sandpaper, prevent the crayons from going through to the back and give you a more stable coloring surface. Decorate the T-Shirt as you wish. When decorated the adult will place a brown paper bag inside the T-Shirt with another brown paper on top. Iron with a very hot iron until the wax has melted into the paper. Move to a clean area of brown paper on both the inside and outside and repeat the ironing process until you get no color on the paper. The T-Shirts are now washable and the crayon picture should last as long as the T-Shirt. Note: The sandpaper can be any grit and does not have to be a new sheet.
Victorian Cornucopia
Cut the construction paper into circles the same size as your paper doily. Spot glue a doily to one side of the paper. Cut the circle in half. Form a cone out of each half placing a loop of ribbon at the top of the seam. Glue the seam and the ribbon in place forming little cones. These can be stored one inside the other until Christmas time. When ready to use add a small treat and a little greenery, dried florals or paper shreds and use them to decorate your Christmas tree. With the small treat that can also be little take home favors.
